Game Industry News Feeds You Should be Reading
by Keela Robison
The app & game industry moves quickly, with thousands of new mobile games releasing every year, and new tools and trends disrupting conventional wisdom every six months. Although somewhat daunting, it’s important for app marketers, developers and game designers to keep up with the key news in the industry. Visiting game-related news sites on a regular basis can be time consuming, but using an RSS feed reader such as feedly can cut down on the time needed to scan games industry headlines. Search Alerts can further pinpoint the games news that you will care about – check out our post on using Google Alerts for App Marketing & Promotion to learn more.
When new people join the games distribution team at GameHouse (even if their primary role isn’t focused on app promotion), we recommend that they subscribe to the following feeds. Note that the list doesn’t include news sites focused primarily on console games.
- GamesBeat (aka VentureBeat Games)
- Gamezebo – mostly focused on new game releases, reviews, and walk-throughs
- Inside Social Games
- TechCrunch Gaming – note that this feed has very few articles
In these feeds, you can’t read the full article, but you can at least scan headlines and the first few sentences to determine whether to click through to the site:
- Gamasutra News
- GamesIndustry International
- PocketGamer.Biz, and of course
- GameHouse Partners blog </shameless self promotion>
What gaming focused sites do you read? Let us know in the comments and we’ll add them to the list!
